Black Fatigue is specifically designed to support our Black adult clients in navigating and addressing the unique challenges and experiences we face as Black folks. Black Fatigue’s goal is to create a safe, supportive, and empowering space where we can connect with each other, share similar experiences, and promote healing through food and community. In Black Fatigue, we recognize that it is important to acknowledge and discuss the challenges of managing and mitigating the impacts of being Black in Madison, in the States, in the World – these challenges include and are not limited to black fatigue, community trauma, compassion trauma, racial trauma, survivor’s guilt, imposture syndrome, identity, intersectionality, and systemic inequality and oppression. We will also be discussing the book “Black Fatigue: How Racism Erodes the Mind, Body, and Spirit” by Mary-Frances Winters. The phenomenon of black fatigue is often referred to as "racial fatigue," and is a term used to describe the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion experienced by Black individuals as a result of persistent racial discrimination, microaggressions, and systemic inequalities.
